Daily Devotion January 29--From everlasting to everlasting

Psalm 90:2
Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

A few days ago while having a deep theological discussion with my 6 year old grandson, he looked at me and asked "How old is God?"  I thought "why couldn't you just ask me something simple?"  So I thought I'd try to find a good way to answer him and I think this verse will do it.

We had recently had a discussion about creation from the book of Genesis.  So he already knew that God created everything.  But then I had to try to explain to him that God just was.  He had always been.  He was here before the earth was formed.  God is and has been and will forever be.  He tells us He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Verse 1 of this same Psalm says Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.  Not only is God eternal but He is and always has been our place of safety, our place of rest.  How comforting to know that our Father who holds us in His hands has no beginning and no end.

As we go through our day, let us remember that no matter how things may seem at the time, God is there and has what we need to survive.
