Daily Devotion for January 31--Looking to God for Decisions
Proverbs 16:20
He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
If we study the meaning of the words in this scripture and put it into everyday terms, it would read--He that handles the Word and his business in a prudent way shall obtain good; he who has confidence in Jehovah shall be blessed.
However, the problem for many of us is that we either don't trust God to do what He says He will do or we don't spend enough time attending to The Word to know how we should manage things. Quite often we react instead of looking at the situation and asking the Lord to help us choose a response. It is very important for us to give heed to instruction--especially the instruction that God has handed down to us through the Bible.
Choosing to seek the Word when making decisions requires wisdom and faith. We can't look at things from our own point of view and expect to truly be successful. We need to seek out Godly wisdom and then have faith that God will see us through. When you look at the men in the Bible who succeeded you will find that they turned to God for advice and when they did mess up, they turned to Him asking forgiveness and then trusting Him to do what He promised to do.
Do you try to make your decisions based on your instinct or your gut? Do you focus on your emotions? We can't make decisions based on peer pressure, the current trend, or what others tell us. We can only make WISE decisions through prayer, studying the Word and then listening for God's guidance.
As we go through the day, let us be sure we are looking to God for wisdom and having faith in Him knowing He never breaks His promises.
