John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
We strive for spiritual growth. Jesus tells us that we must abide in Him if we are to produce fruit for Him. Just like the vines that produce grapes must grow deep into the soil, we must grow deep in our relationship with Christ.
God has a purpose for each of us and the more we dwell in Him the more we are able to fulfill that purpose. We want to be fruitful in the work of the Lord, but sometimes it seems that we are not making much progress. During those times, it is important for us to spend time in God's word and in prayer. He will then give us the direction we need so that we can do all He has planned for us to do.
God has many blessings in store for us, but it is important to remember that we can do nothing on our own. We must depend on Him and grow in Him. We must be willing to devote our lives to Jesus and be willing to live for Him. Just like the branches of the grapevine can't survive without the grapevine, we can't grow unless we abide in Him.
As we go through the day, let us remember that if we wish to have spiritual growth, we must stay connected to Christ.
